In today’s society, many politicians appear trustworthy and are in reality crooked. Photoshop also manipulates appearance and reality. In literature, authors use appearance versus reality to create an interesting plot or characterize. In William Shakespeare’s tragedy, Macbeth, the theme of appearance versus reality is seen frequently through the supernatural and Macbeth s hallucinations. As macbeth first ponders, he believes the murder is a nightmare, but a line later calls it fantastical, with a positive connotat ion. The changing feeling in this appearance reflects his downfall from a moral, loyal subject to a morally ambiguous man who murders his own king. As Macbeth takes fate into his own hands and is about to murder Duncan, he hallucinates a dagger and questions, â€Å"Is this a dagger which I see before me?† (2.1.44). As Macbeth hallucinates, indicating that he is not of sound mind, he is still questioning whether it is real and maintaining an ability to recognize that it is not when he professes that it is a â€Å"dagger of the mind†(2.1.50). When Macbeth decides that the dagger is not real, he has not gone insane, but has still declined as he hallucinated. As Macbeth continues to hallucinates he says â€Å"On thy blade dudgeon gouts of blood, which was not was before†. The appearance of blood imagery indicates that the hallucination is getting worse, because he did not see it before but now does. Every day we as a society make attempts to close the gap between genders. We know gender certainly does play a role in human nature, society, and even sports. But both genders, male and female, still face overwhelming barriers when trying to break into a sport that is not â€Å"known â€Å" or â€Å"proper† for that specific gender to be participating in. Gender barriers are certainly existent in today’s sports culture, such as â€Å"Women’s-only events† or â€Å"Men-only event† in the Olympics shows bias towards a specific gender role. Again back to my original statement it should be based on athletic abilities everything else aside. A great example of this was this past weekend’s news in sports about Michael Sam, a former All-American defensive end on the football team. He admitted on Sunday in an interview as a homosexual male, he would be the first open male in the National Football League. Breaking that sexuality barrier on April 2nd if he gets drafted, would be incredible, something not many people would be able to do. It would affect the gender barrier people could relate to what Michael had done. Gender barriers are carried over from sports and into the workplace; I believe they are directly correlated. Throughout time these two ideas seem to reflect the nature of the other, women have become a more prominent force in the workplace and at the same time have been able to close the gap for gender barriers in sports as well. But women still are not financially comparable to men’s athletics. The number of women playing sports has greatly increased over the years, especially with Title IX coming into play. But financially it is still not equal, just like in the workforce; women are not paid as equal as men. In conclusion gender barriers are a socially constructed idea that a certain person, just because of their gender or sexuality cannot participate in a sport. Back to Billy Jean, she showed the world women could compete with men, she showed the world talent should be based on athletic ability not ones gender.

Volunteering for Relay For Life

Community service can build character, improve the lives of surrounding people, and add extracurricular activities to a college application. There are plenty of ways a high school student can get involved with a project, such as joining a community service-oriented club on campus, asking teachers or administrators, looking online for local volunteer positions, or even starting up a new project!One project I enjoy working on each year is the Relay for Life team I created with some friends. Relay for Life is an organization that raises money and awareness for cancer research. They host an annual twenty-four hour relay event in various locations. We discovered that there would be an event at a local park, so we went online and started up a team. My friends and I had some nice inspirational posters made and framed, which we raffled off on the day of the relay. The money made from the raffle tickets all went towards cancer research. The event was a lot of fun, as I got to stay up for a full day (a little longer including set-up and take-down!) with my best friends, raised money for a good cause, and had the opportunity to speak with many cancer survivors, and those who were still in the fight. I cannot imagine a better way to spend twenty-four hours, and am so glad I decided to start up a team freshmen year. The event was such an amazing experience that my team and I came back the following year, and are already preparing for this year’s relay! Introduction Mental health recidivism refers to the relapse of a prisoner’s mental health due to provision of improper rehabilitation services. Criminals, who do not receive proper mental health treatment during imprisonment, show a higher degree of recidivism as compared to the prisoners who receive proper rehabilitation services. Rate of recidivism is the degree to which criminals come back to prison either for the same offense or for some other criminal offense. A higher rate of recidivism indicates lack of rehabilitation services for prisoners because of which they cannot stop themselves from relapsing into criminal activities upon release from the prisons. It also increases government expenses in terms of incarceration and trial expenses, as well as causes threat to the overall peace of s ociety. On the other hand, a lower degree of mental health recidivism indicates presence of a proper correctional management system which performs its role efficiently to improve the negative mindset of criminals. A number of mental health recidivism-reduction methods are available which can help correctional officers reduce the rate of recidivism among prison inmates. Some of those methods include educational programs, employment programs, treatment programs, parole based programs, and faith based programs. However, mental illness treatment and employment programs work best for reducing mental health recidivism rates. In this paper, we will examine the extent to which mental illness treatment and employment programs help prisoners recover from mental illness and serve the society as normal citizens. We will review existing literature to gather detailed information. Methodology We used questionnaires and personal interviews to determine the role of mental illness treatment and emplo yment programs in reducing the rate of mental health recidivism. We interviewed ten correctional officers and twenty-five prisoners from three different prisons to gather information about the current rate of recidivism and the types of rehabilitation services that are provided to prisoners. The questionnaire was able to obtain relevant information about the past imprisonment histories of the prisoners. The prisons visited for research included Albion Correctional Facility, Bare Hill Correctional Facility, and Buffalo Correctional Facility. All of these prisons are located in New York. Results The results of the research indicated that rehabilitation services being provided to prisoners in these prisons are not up to the standards. The recidivism reduction programs implemented in Albion Correctional Facility and Bare Hill Correctional Facility include treatment for substance abuse, treatment for mental illness, and employment programs. On the other hand, the recidivism reduction tec hniques being used in Buffalo Correctional Facility include employment and educational programs. One-third of the mentally ill prisoners revealed that they have been imprisoned for more than two times in their lives.
